English Series

1958 - 1966

A decade after the Philippines was declared independent, the English Series served as the nation’s first series of coinage as an independent republic. However, as the Central Bank did not have its own mint, the majority of coins were minted by the US Mint, the Royal Mint in the UK, and Vereinigte Deutsche Metallwerke (VDM) in West Germany. It was the only series to use pure English in its language, as well as on the original Central Bank label. Furthermore, the years of its mintage were not consistent. The series was later demonetized on August 31, 1979. However, the 10-centavo remained legal tender until it was demonetized on January 2, 1998, as per BSP Circular No. 81, Series of 1995.
