Description
The coin was a standard circulating coin under the Improved Flora and Fauna Series, in which its size was reduced, and its composition was changed to brass. The obverse features Marcelo H. del Pilar, often referred to as the "Father of Philippine Journalism," for founding the Diariong Tagalog. The reverse features the Philippine eagle, which is a prominent cultural symbol of the Philippines. The coin is common due to its high mintage. It was demonetized on January 2, 1998, as per BSP Circular No. 81, Series of 1995, and was the last time the Bangko Sentral minted a 50 sentimo coin for circulation.
