Description
The coin was a standard circulating coin under the Flora and Fauna Series. The obverse features Francisco Baltasar, who wrote the epic “Florante at Laura” to criticize abuses under Spanish rule secretly. The reverse features the Philippine goby, one of the smallest freshwater fishes. The coin is common due to its high mintage. Its size and shape remained unchanged throughout the Improved Flora and Fauna series until it was later demonetized on January 2, 1998, as per BSP Circular No. 81, Series of 1995.
